I feel very fortunate as an author because I met Susanna Kearsley 20 years ago when she had first published MARIANA. I was living in a small town in Ontario for a brief time and didn’t know anyone, and I read in the newspaper that a local author was giving a workshop on writing, so naturally I went. (I was still unpublished at the time).
It was a small, intimate group of authors who attended and I got to know Susanna over the next few months before I left to return home to Nova Scotia.
I still remember having lunch with her just before I left, and she had just picked up her author copies from her publisher for THE SPLENDOUR FALLS at the post office. She opened the box right at the table and signed one for me. I still have it.
Susanna later went on to become a major New York Times bestselling author. All her books are beautifully written with lyrical prose and colorful, heartwarming characters, a touch of history and the perfect blend of magic and realism to sweep you away to another world. Over the years, she has remained one of my favorite authors of all time.
If you haven’t read her books before, I highly recommend any of her titles that appeal to you, or if you’d like to try one of her award winners, she recently accepted the prestigious Romance Writers of America Rita statue for THE FIREBIRD. She was also nominated for the Rita for another of her amazing novels, THE WINTER SEA.
